You can’t write about a shark film, and not mention Jaws. This Steven Spielberg directorial had released in 1975 and had received a thunderous response. The film revolves around a dreaded great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a summer resort town, thus resulting in a hunt operation involving a police chief, a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter. The film had won three Academy Awards and is a highly recommended film if you are a fan of this genre.
Deep Blue Sea
Another gem in this genre is Renny Harlin’s 1999 science fiction horror film, Deep Blue Sea. The film revolves around a team of scientists who are researching on mako sharks to help fight Alzheimer’s disease. However, the situation worsens when multiple genetically engineered sharks go on an attack spree thus flooding their facility. The film features Saffron Burrows, Thomas Jane, Michael Rapaport and our very own Avengers actor Samuel L. Jackson. Watch it if you seek some edge on the seat moments this weekend.

This Blake Lively starrer is another favourite in the shark film genre. Released in 2016, The Shallows revolves around a surfer who gets stranded 200 yards from the shore and struggles to survive repeated attacks from a great white shark. Some sequences from this film will truly scare you, but believe us it’s worth a try. Also, the climax has a lot to learn from. Go watch.
The Meg
Are you a fan of Jason Statham, and love a shark film? Then, The Meg is for you. Directed by Jon Turteltaub, this 2018 science fiction action film has a megalodon shark at the centre. Additionally, there are so many twists and turns in this film that it will keep you entertained throughout. This one is available on Amazon Prime.
47 Meters Down
Another survival drama revolving around the sharks, 47 Meters Down released in 2017 and featured Claire Holt and Mandy Moore. While the film had opened to mixed reviews, it was still a commercial success. If you have already binge-watched the first four in this list, you must not miss out on this one too.
