Fans across the globe shed tears when Avenger: Endgame released last year. Since then they have been eargely awaiting the upcoming films and series that are in the pipeline – unfortunately which have been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have come across an Captain Marvel easter egg in the MCU movie Avengers: Infinity War. Read on to know about it.
The latest easter egg that has been discovered is on the back of the beeper Nick Fury uses. Fury uses this beeper to send a distress signal to Captain Marvel at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. Ask what the easter is? Well, it appears in the form of an engraved logo for S.W.O.R.D.
Fans of Marvel will know S.W.O.R.D. as the extraterrestrial wing of S.H.I.E.L.D. Similarly to S.H.I.E.L.D., who works with the Avengers to protect Earth, S.W.O.R.D. operates on a cosmic level. This team features different heroes who are also referred to as Space Avengers.
Talking more about this easter egg, the logo for S.W.O.R.D. showing up at the end of Infinity War is the most direct acknowledgement that the organization exists and will have a part to play in future films.
Another hint to the existence of S.W.O.R.D. was provided in one of the post-credit scenes in Spider-Man: Far From Home. In this scene, we see Nick Fury relaxing aboard a spaceship, which is most likely the headquarters of S.W.O.R.D.
The biggest link to S.W.O.R.D. doesn’t take place in the MCU films but happens in the finale episode of the TV show Agents of SHEILD. In the finale episode, Daisy embarks on a new adventure with Sousa and Kora on a mission in deep space. This mission could be one of the first steps for S.H.E.I.L.D. to evolve into S.W.O.R.D.. Do note this takes place in an alternate reality thought.
S.W.O.R.D. will be seen playing a much more active role in WandaVision. Photos from the upcoming Disney+ series show what appears to be a military base bearing the S.W.O.R.D. logo. It is also being speculated that Monica Rambeau, who played a child in Captain Marvel will be part of WandaVision as an adult and is a member of S.W.O.R.D.
If the superheroes are heading into space for future adventures, this can only mean that their next big threat is going to be coming from there as well. Fans are hoping that the planet-eating giant Galactus and his herald the Silver Surfer are going to be the next big threat to the MCU after Thanos.
