Avengers: Endgame #64: ‘Iron Man’ Robert Downey Jr Was Almost Out Of Captain America: Civil War!

Last year, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans said goodbye to Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Avengers: Endgame, their contract came to an end and their characters were given a close. Iron Man sacrificed his life to kill Thanos and Captain America gave up on his superpowers in the end. We saw an old Steve Rogers after he went back to place the infinity stones.

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, fans were curious to see how Tony Stark and Steve Rogers meet. The duo didn’t meet each other during Avengers: Infinity War. But they came face-to-face in Avengers: Endgame. However, they decided to keep their differences aside to fight Thanos. What if we tell you that Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man was almost out of Civil War’s script?

That’s our Avengers: Endgame Trivia #64 for today. As mentioned by IMDB, Marvel initially wanted to have a small role for Tony Stark. But the actor wanted to be a part of the film on a large scale. Learning this, Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter got furious who told the screenwriters to write Stark completely out of the script. When Kevin Feige got to know about it, he pushed Robert Downey Jr’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Kevin said that Tony Stark’s presence in Civil War can help further in the sequels, new franchises and more in the MCU. With his casting in the film, RDJ received a substantial payout and it included a back-end participation deal. There was another payout if the film manages to cross the box-office gross of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Well, Civil War managed to exceed it.

We wonder how would that iconic meeting scene between Stark and Rogers in Avengers: Endgame look like if Robert wasn’t a part of Civil War. But thanks to Kevin Feige, we got to see some emotional and powerful moments between Cap and Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War.
