Every year the months of the Indian Premier League make Bollywood suffer its most grave losses. But following the famished period, is a boom that is kicked in by one film that manages to shift the attention of audiences to Bollywood, away from the arena of cricket.
This year, Ayan Mukherji directed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is expected to be that film. The last few months, with few flattering releases, have failed to leave an impression. From Daayan folklores to Zombie tales, nothing could tug at the audiences’ interest vein or tickle the funny bone enough to capture the domestic box-office.
Now, with 31st May being the day when the month’s most anticipated release is slotted, news of the film distributed widely, is interesting. Expected to release in over 3000 screens, the film with its spectacular looks, a tremendous lead pair with ex-flames and a story that will relate will with the younger strata of society, it has expectations pining on it!
Ayan Mukherji’s Wake Up Sid was a surprise performer that year and now with his second being publicized so widely, the film’s distribution is a rage in the domestic market. Though the multiplexes will divide focus between Hangover 3 and this one, YJHD can be expected to have a one time magic with single screens. However, Mukherji’s previous work has a more simplistic urban appeal, it can be expected to get a large part of its repeat audiences from multiplexes!
