The Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer Desi Boyz made Rs. 28.25 crore (all-India net) on its first weekend and the producer of the film is sure to make profits. Koimoi.com Editor Komal Nahta explains:
The producers, Eros International, who ended up investing around Rs. 65 crore in Desi Boyz, have made a killing by selling its satellite and audio rights and are also recipients of the UK government’s subsidy. In this way, they have already recovered around 75% of their investment from sale of satellite and audio rights and because of the subsidy offered by the UK government. Recovery of the balance portion of the investment at the end of the first week, after taking into account the distributors’ shares from India and Overseas seems to be a left-hand task.

Individual distributors may not make a killing where they’ve paid fancy prices, but Eros (producer) is all set to make a profit of around Rs. 10-15 crore, at least.
