As expected, Wazir saw an average opening at the Box Office. This is something one could see coming a week before the film’s release since the hype was clearly missing around the Vidhu Vinod Chopra production. Since the buzz was just about decent and there weren’t much of a push given to the film en route the release, the footfalls were always supposed to be just about decent to begin with and then show some progress on the basis of word of mouth.
As a result, the film’s first day collections read 5.5 crore* which is fair, considering the genre and the cast. Ever since the promo came out, it was quite clear that the film was looking at a niche audience. That said, the presence of Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar could have propelled the film to a better number on the opening day, had the overall push being a stronger.

Still, the film could still have perhaps zoomed to a better number had the combination of critical acclaim and audience feedback been stronger. Since it has been pretty mixed from both perspectives, the numbers had to settle down at an average mark.

It would now boil down to how the film grows over the weekend. There are no complaints that the Bejoy Nambiar film would have from the screen count and show timings perspective since it has got the best of the deal, considering it being the first release of the year. Moreover, it has been fortunate to gain two open weeks to make merry since Ghayal Once Again has pushed itself from the originally planned 15th January release.
