It is ‘achche din’ indeed for Ranveer Singh and his Bajirao Mastani. Not just he is set for the biggest overseas release ever with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, he is also finding as much attention as the biggest blockbuster of the year, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, received when it released on Eid earlier this year. His historical affair is set to arrive on over 800 screens, something that the Kabir Khan directed human drama had enjoyed when it hit the screens in July this year.
Confirms our source, “It is indeed a huge thing for Bajirao Mastani. Overseas has typically been a superstar driven territory. It is only biggies starring the three Khans, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn or Hrithik Roshan that typically find prominence there, considering the fan following they have built over last so many years. It is very rare when a new star makes a huge impression and earns a huge release to his name. However, content has started speaking the loudest of late. Six months back, a relatively smaller film like Tanu Weds Manu Returns had done so well in the overseas.”
With Bajirao Mastani being the biggest of them all and also very comfortably the most expensive and lavish affair ever featuring a star who has had less than 10 releases to his name, its mega release in overseas is being seen as a very good sign.
“It is all the more noticeable since on the same day as Bajirao Mastani arrives, 18th December, Hollywood is arriving with its big bucks film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It is gaining, what you call, a big festival release. While this film is understandably seeing the biggest share of the pie as far as the release size is concerned, Shahrukh Khan’s Dilwale is very obviously finding a terrific arrival as well.”
Still, in the midst of this all, Bajirao Mastani is now seeing a release at least as big as Dilwale, while as a standalone film, it is already on an excellent footing. Guess Eros International, which has been behind the two biggest blockbusters of the year so far (Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Tanu Weds Manu Returns), is certainly realizing the power packed affair that the Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra carries and is going all out to ensure that it earns what it truly deserves.
