There were five Bollywood releases planned over the weekend and except for Mickey Virus, none of the others managed to make any impact whatsoever. In fact Sooper Se Ooper and Ishk Actually still were released (even though sparsely) while no one knows whether Amdavad Junction and Wake Up India were even released in any prominent city across the country.
Mickey Virus had in fact quite a large release for itself with 6-8-10 shows in prominent multiplexes. Considering the newbie cast and director, this was a major bonus for the film. However the footfalls were minimal that ranged from 15%–20%. The only silver lining was a huge release that ensured that even at such low occupancy, the collections were still okay, hence resulting in over 1.5 crore coming in on the opening day. This was in fact just a little lower than Vicky Donor that too had released on a low note last year.
Mickey Virus didn’t really get any bad reviews to it’s name and the feedback ranged from okay to quite good, hence resulting in a sigh of relief for the makers. The audience’s word of mouth was in the right direction too. However pre-Diwali weekend meant that increment in footfalls wasn’t exponential and hence eventually it had to settle down for a weekend of below 5 crores. For a newcomer film this is still not a bad start but since Krrish 3 arrives next, the film has to earn whatever it can in its first week itself.
As for the remaining films, there wasn’t much to cheer about. Sooper Se Ooper opened to practically empty theatres while Ishk Actually too didn’t have much collections to show.
