Not A Happy Box Office Story: Galat Films Not Worthy Even Two Stars

Chatur Singh Two Star opened to ordinary houses in single screen cinemas of circuits like UP. But the Sanjay Dutt starrer failed to make any mark in circuits like Bombay, Delhi, Mysore in general and in multiplexes across the country in particular.

Ram Gopal Varma’s Not A Love Story may have gained a lot of pre-release mileage because it is inspired by a true-life murder case but all the media hype failed to translate into audience attendance and box-office collections. Looking to its dull opening everywhere – whether in multiplexes or in single-screen cinemas – Kannada film actress Maria Susairaj and her Naval officer-boyfriend, Emile Jerome Mathews, the two accused in the Neeraj Grover murder case, by which this film is inspired, must be regretting why they took the trouble of serving legal notices on Varma to prevent the film’s release for fear that their reputations would be tarnished after people saw this film. Seems, not many among the public are interested in watching this fictionalized account of the high-profile crime story.

As for this week’s third release, Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande, its initial was pathetic. Shows of the film at Wide Angle and Cinemax multiplexes in Ahmedabad had to be cancelled because no bande showed up to watch the directorial debut of Parvin Dabas, directly telling on the film’s dhanda.

Going by the poor opening and equally poor public reports of all the three new release this week, it would seem that the advantage would once again accrue to Rohit Shetty’s Singham, which is still going strong in its fifth week.
