Aatma Underperforms; Rangrezz Goes Down | 1st Week Box Office Collections

The signs were visible with the very low opening that both the films fetched and when there was hardly any escalation over the weekend, the writing was clear on the wall. While there was minimal interest amongst the audience to check out what the films were all about, the fact that word of mouth wasn’t enticing enough for the audience to check out what was playing on screens further proved to be a spanner in the plans. Result? Two films that haven’t done much to keep the flag high for the success of low and medium budget films, something that 2013 has otherwise enjoyed in abundance in its first quarter.

This can be pretty much evidenced from the fact that Aatma has managed only around 8 crores in its first week which is hardly a good number. Even for a horror genre, it is hardly impressive. The film is barely a coverage affair and though that should help director Suparn Verma keep his stint with Bollywood on, one still expected more due to the presence of Bipasha Basu.

On the other hand, Jackky Bhagnani would consider himself unlucky that despite Rangrezz being a decent film, and one of the better by Priyadarshan, there was just no audience for this. It was the case of the core subject not really reaching out to the audience. With barely 6 crores coming in, the film is a flop at the box office.

Other release of the week, Sona Spa, was a complete non-starter at the box office and failed to find any audience throughout the week. With hardly any collections to talk about, the film is yet another box office disaster by director Makrand Deshpande.
