With things coming back on track in China, movies like 1917, Ford V Ferrari and Sonic The Hedgehog made their way back at the box office. It’s also been reported that the sales of tickets as compared to the last week has dropped all over China.
After keeping the cinemas shut for 6 months, China reopened them three weeks ago. Theatres in the regions where there still is a risk of COVID have not opened yet. Only selected theatres have been resumed to screen. Those theatres up and running are facing many restrictions. The shows will be reduced to half of their previous numbers and just 30% of those shows will be filled with the audience.
According to data from industry tracker Maoyan, Sam Mendes’ war-drama 1917 ruled the China Box Office this weekend with $5.3 million. Though same wasn’t the fate for Christian Bale, Matt Damon’s Ford V Ferrari as it did a poor business of just $1.2 million over the weekend. In its second weekend, Sonic The Hedgehog remained still under the half-million mark grossing $446,000.
