The King’s Speech Sweeps Oscars

‘The King’s Speech’ took away the Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Original Screenplay and Sound Editing at the 83rd Academy Awards. Toy Story 3 was the clear winner in the animation category with Best Animated Feature Film and also Best Original Song for We Belong Together. Inception took away awards for the Best Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects. Surprisingly, True Grit received only one award even with 10 nominations.

But some of the best features of the awards were in the nervous speeches and faux pas: on winning the Best Supporting Actress in The Fighter, Melissa Leo went on to bumble in her speech with, “When I watched Kate (Winslet) two years ago it looked so f—in’ easy – oops!” Maybe that gave co-star Christian Bale a head start who almost made it there with a “Bloody hell!” as soon as he took stage for Actor in a Supporting Role.
