Sonam Kapoor who was last seen is Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, is all set to come back on the big-screen with her upcoming quirky drama, The Zoya Factor, which stars Dulquer Salmaan as the male lead. The trailer launch event took place today, and Sonam spoke in length about several subjects, but what caught her attention is her take on Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan & Sonakshi Sinha’s claims of male actors not willing to be a part of films which showcase women as the protagonist.

When Sonam at the event was asked about her take on the same, and whether she has faced anything similar, she said, “I think that depends on the person and their confidence level and how they feel about themselves and how they work. My father did films like Beta, Ladla, Mr. India where women had prominent roles and he was a superstar at that time… he was ‘The Anil Kapoor’ in the 80s and 90s (he’s still I guess) but at that time he was like young, happening and when I saw that I couldn’t understand when I was doing certain films, why men weren’t treating it the same way.”

Furthermore, she went onto praise her male co-stars including Dhanush, Rajkummar Rao amongst others as she continued, “Like I’ve been brought up to think that it doesn’t matter as long as the role is amazing but there was Dhanush, there is Dulquer, there is Ayushmann, Rajkummar who I have worked with.. there are a lot of these men who are out there and you know what? They’re doing better than any of the other actors right now, because they realised it is not about who is leading the film, it is about the film.. the content of the film, what are you trying to put out there and that is the most important thing. That is progressive and that is incredible and it’s what is working currently.”

This comes after Mission Mangal actresses Vidya, Taapsee and Sonakshi had raised the concern during their movie’s promotion.

“It’s great that an Akshay Kumar has done this film, despite knowing that women have equal space in it. Because normally, (male superstars) are not even willing to share equal space. But Akshay has not only acted in the film but produced it too,” Vidya Balan had said during an interview.
