Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film Shikara released on Friday. The film stars Aadil Khan and Sadia in the lead roles. It is based on the Exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir which happened during the early 90s. The film received good response from the critics.
Yesterday, the director attended a public show of Shikara in Delhi to get the audience feedback. A Kashmiri woman who saw the film broke down in the theatre and lashed at Vidhu Vinod Chopra for commercialising the entire issue.
The woman yelled at Vidhu Vinod Chopra for not showing the real suffering of the Kashmiri Pandits who suffered due to genocide, mass rapes and mass murders during the 90s by the Islamic radical groups. She told the director, “Ye aapka commercialism aapko mubarakh ho (Congratulations on your commercialism) As a Kashmiri Pandit, I disown your film, I disown it.” She also alleged that Chopra polarised the suffering of Pandits in the film.

As soon as the woman was done talking, Vidhu Vinod Chopra told the people present there to applaud for her. He took her remarks on a lighter note and said that truth has two faces and different people have different perspectives and different side.
Regarding her claims of not showing the entire truth, the director joked, “Ab aapke liye sequel banayenge (Now I will make a sequel for you).”
