Earlier this month the names of the three people to be honoured at the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) 48th annual meeting was announced. Among the three was Shah Rukh Khan who was honoured for his work on women & children’s rights in India. While receiving his award at Davos, he delivered a speech which left a mark on everyone’s heart.
Not only was it all emotional and motivational, but it also reminded us of a very basic thing which gets lost in the hustle of our daily life i.e. to give back to the society in whatever way we can. While receiving the award, he thanked the ladies in his life. “Service of others is not a choice but a duty we must all fulfil” he said.
Shah Rukh is the founder of the non-profit foundation Meer, which provides support to female victims of acid attacks and major burn injuries through medical treatment, legal aid, vocational training, rehabilitation and livelihood support.

Other then Shah Rukh, the two others who were honoured with the Crystal Awards included Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett and legendary musician Elton John. While Elton received it for his leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Blanchett was recognised for her leadership in raising awareness about the refugee crisis.
The past awardees from India include Amitabh Bachchan, Mallika Sarabhai, A R Rahman, Shabana Azmi, Ravi Shankar and Amjad Ali Khan.
Social media is going all gaga about Shah Rukh’s speech and videos from the awards are doing rounds. Check out the videos below if you missed King Khan’s moving speech all the way from Davos.
