From the day the trailer of Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh was out, it grabbed a lot of headlines. The trailer received a backlash for making fun of marital rape because of Kartik’s dialogue.

Kartik’s dialogue was – “Biwi se sex maang lein, toh hum bhikaari. Biwi ko sex mana kar dein, toh hum atyachaari aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke uss se sex haasil kar lein na toh balaatkaari bhi hum hain” which translates into “If we ask the wife for sex, we are beggars. If we say no to the wife for sex we are tormentors and if somehow we manage to get sex from her we are rapists.”

Pati Patni Aur Woh Director On Marital Rape Dialogue Backlash: “When The Word Balatkar Is Said 36 Times In A Speech, You’ll Laugh”

After the backlash, the makers removed the particular dialogue from the film. During a group interaction, Pati Patni Aur Woh director Mudassar Aziz spoke about the same. He said, “A lot of people said the dialogue insinuated that marital rape is ok. What’s the line? A man seems to be saying ‘If I do this I’m called this, if I do that I’m called this also.’ Ninety-nine percent of men in the country do not even know when they are committing marital rape. Coming back home after work and waking up a sleeping wife, even if you indulge in foreplay, that’s not consent. A filmmaker presents that line in a film, everyone starts to tell him to remove that word from the film.”
