Hansal Mehta never ceases to amaze us with his choice of stories and storytelling. The poster of his upcoming thriller Omertà which was released today gives an indication that the filmmaker along with Rajkummar Rao is about to break new ground again.

Omertà is the terrifying true story of Omar Saeed Shaikh, one of the most dreaded terrorists of all time. The poster shows Rajkummar kneeling in prayer with his hands cupped and wearing a skull cap.

Seeing a man peacefully praying is hardly the image one would conjure up of a terrorist who kills without a conscience. But Mehta definitely makes a strong point with the poster.

For the first time ever, we will see Rajkummar play the role of an anti-hero. From the role of a dedicated civil servant out to do good to a merciless, cold-hearted and brutal terrorist, its a character diametrically opposite to what we saw in Newton. In fact, he even tweeted a still from the film, saying it’s the toughest role he has played till date.

Director Hansal Mehta says, “Audiences will be surprised to see Rajkummar’s antagonistic turn in Omerta. Here is a man you will and must loathe. For both me and Raj, this film and Omar’s character were completely new territory- a journey into an evil mind. This is a very different Rajkummar, he is very diabolical in this film.”

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won many accolades. It is set to release on April 20th.
