Tennis meets Bollywood! Long time couple Mahesh Bhupathi and Lara Dutta got engaged in New York last week. Bhupathi made the surprise announcement sound like an offhand remark on his Twitter page with, “So Lara and me got engaged in NY last week” Lara retweeted it with a smiley.

Lara and Mahesh have been seeing each other for quite a long time but the couple had refused to speak about their relationship publicly even though Lara has been seen with the 36-year old Grand Slam winner at many public events. The couple has been in New York since August for the US Open and Davis cup.

While the Bollywood beauty and tennis champ start a new story together, their relationship also has a lot of baggage. Insiders whispered about Lara being the reason behind the end of Mahesh’s seven year marriage to Shwetha Jaishankar. At the same time, Mahesh has been blamed for the former Miss Universe’s breakup with Dino Morea.

Let bygones be bygones. Wishing Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi a long loving life together!
