She has played a bold, confident young woman film after film ever since she was seen first in Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi. This time around though, she is playing a victim of sexual harassment in Inkaar. One can well assume though that with Sudhir Mishra as her mentor, she indeed would have found her way out in this difficult role. However as far as finding her way in is concerned, one can be rest assured that given her long standing relationship with the filmmaker, she must have been sure about being the leading lady in the film right from the time Sudhir started writing it, isn’t it?
“Guess what, I never got a narration,” smiles Chitrangada Singh, “In fact even that came long after I had already said ‘yes’ on the basis of just an idea that had been shared with me. Sudhir told me that ‘Ok Chitrangada, so here is this love story where no one is holding hands and saying I Love You to each other. It is modern, ambitious and has something to deal with workplace politics’.”
An idea that instantly reminds an average cine-goer of Mithun Chakraborty and Mallika Sarabhai starrer Sheesha (1986). “No, I have not seen that film, I don’t think we are not anywhere close to that,” Chitrangada says in a genuine tone.
Meanwhile there is another film of hers which is beginning in the month of April, though she is currently tight-lipped about it. Also, there are long standing talks of her being the leading lady in Sudhir’s Mehrunissa. Even though it has been mentioned quite too often that Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor have green-lighted the project, what does Chitrangada have to say about her presence in the film?
“Well, I really don’t know. You know Sudhir, he never tells you anything till he has put together everything. Agar kabhi baat hoti bhi hai toh he just says ki ‘intezaar karo’,” she smiles.
