Kay Kay Menon suddenly has a splurge of films for his audiences. The actor, who hasn’t had a release since ABCD in February last year, is assumed to have gotten choosier with roles. In the coming months, there are bigger releases like Haider and Bombay Velvet awaiting him. Now that Kay Kay is playing the lead antagonist in Emraan Hashmi starrer Raja Natwarlal, the actor lays down his scheme of thinking and why posterity wins over box office success for a method man like him.
Kay Kay said, “To be in the public domain is normally misconstrued as flourishing. I can put myself in the papers everyday by cutting ribbon everyday. It doesn’t necessarily mean I am flourishing. It is very easy to put myself out for all the shoddy work I do and yet be seem flourishing. But that is not my content of life. There is no meaning to it. If I am doing something worthwhile and appreciated, I am okay with it. Ups and downs are a part of life because no one stays up and no one stays down forever. I am here to be in the one path I have been following which is work with an eye on posterity. I am not here to perform for three days box office business. I don’t consider it performance at all. For me the focus is to leave behind a legacy and not give a string of films, that does well for three days and people have forgotten about it by the time the year is over.”
Known for his seasoned work is a few gem of films like Sarkar alongside Amitabh Bachchan, the actor says that he has nearly one tenth of his works that can be stored as DVDs at homes. Menon elucidates, “Films like Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Sarkar are personal benchmarks to beat for me. I don’t think I have achieved perfection but the paradox about perfection is that one must try to achieve it. The moment you achieve perfection, you are dead. We are all here because we were imperfect. Out of 50 odd films, I have about 10 films for posterity. It is not bad a ratio, given it is 1/10th of my work. Even a De Niro doesn’t have it. Those films are my entity and the rest is because of those films, you start doing other films.”
Playing the role of Wardha in Raja Natwarlal, the film also stars Emraan Hashmi and Humaima Malick alongside veteran actor Paresh Rawal. Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, the film will release this Friday.
