Hollywood once again beat Bollywood on Friday (May 6th, 2011). Fast & Furious 5 overtook the two Hindi releases as far as opening was concerned. Not just the English version but the dubbed Hindi version of the Hollywood flick also opened very well across India. Yash Chopra’s foray into youth films was far from dramatic, what with his first film, Luv Ka The End, opening to poor houses. Collections on Friday were as low as 5% and 10% of the capacity in most cases. Clearly, the brand value of Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra did not help the maiden film of the new banner, Y-Films. Believe it or not, a few shows of ‘Luv Ka The End’ had to be cancelled because of absence of the audience ! Vikram Bhatt’s 3D horror outing, Haunted, opened well in cinemas screening the 3D version, but the initial was ordinary where the 2D version was screened. Clearly, the craze for the three-dimensional experience was more than the thirst to watch the horror drama starring newcomers.
