There’s no denying that Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs Of Wasseypur has acquired a cult status over the years. Both part 1 and 2 were highly acclaimed and did decent business with its targetted niche audience. While its box office verdict is still a topic of debate, the maverick filmmaker recently blasted out at the film’s studio.
It all started when Richa Chadha, who portrayed an important character in Gangs Of Wasseypur series, opened up on getting paid only 2.5 lakhs for the film. She raised an issue that the film’s unprecedented popularity and cult status is making profits for someone. She even raised the issue of royalty. Anurag Kashyap further responded to her points.
Anurag tweeted, “She is right. Most actors and crew got paid similar amounts or less and I had to forfeit my entire fees to make GOW. Funny thing is we still own 50%IPR on GOW and we have never seen a penny on it or know about its income. For the studio, it’s still a flop.”
