I don’t remember when was the last time there was an actor who was so rooted in 90s’ Bollywood. Ranveer SIngh is earthly and enjoyable. He has Bachchan’s vigor, Madhuri’s thumka, Govinda’s garish sense of dressing and the epic moofat that no other actor has the guts to be.
Let’s admit it! He is not Mills and Boons hot. He is not some smoldering Greek God or some cutie you ogle at in college. He is the yaar-kinda guy whom you’ll befriend and eventually fall for the rustic beauty.
His first impression in Band Baaja Baarat wasn’t incredible but by the end of the film you were rooting for him. Same goes for his career too. The newbie from Band Baaja Baarat scored by bagging films with directors like Vikramaditya Motwane, Zoya Akhtar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Woot!
So yeah! Sonam Kapoor and Ranveer are cousins! But Ranveer remains firmly grounded and doesn’t let the snobbery and airs overpower him. He doesn’t throw lines like Tu janta nahin mera baap kaun hai. The actor maintains lineage doesn’t guarantee success and hence he doesn’t and shouldn’t owe his success to anyone but him alone.
I think no other actor of his credibility and power will so openly go and endorse a condom brand. Ranveer did. He sang, rapped and danced about it in style. He is sensuous with such ease and bold with such simplicity. Probably for any other star endorsing a Durex would have been a blemish on their star image, but ranveer scored with it like never before!
