Rating: 2.5/5 (Two and half stars)

Music Director: Vishal-Shekhar

User Rating:

The Bang Bang album is highly conventional. Composers Vishal-Shekhar give us five tracks that lack novelty and reek of their previous compositions. Banking on their best skills and amazing vocalists, the songs are worth a hearing but lack the quality to make a lasting impression. This album is a classic case of ‘out of sight, out of mind’ and will wear out as soon as the film’s buzz is over.

Tu Meri – Bang Bang Music Review

Who said love can be expressed in a slow, mushy romantic song? Here is a track that is peppy enough with the quintessential love song lyrics. ‘Tu Meri‘ sung by Vishal Dadlani is a fast-paced number that is completely groovy. There may be nothing new in the musical arrangements, yet the typical beats work in favor of this number. ‘Tu Meri‘ may not become an i-pod favorite but the foot tapping number has a likability to it.

Meherbaan – Bang Bang Music Review

If you are a follower of Vishal-Shekhar music, this is one of those mush numbers that they specialize in. ‘Meherbaan‘ will remind you of their previous hits such as ‘Hey Shona‘ and ‘Ishqwala Love‘. Meherbaan has amazing guitar pieces and the soulful voices of Ash King and Shilpa Rao blend perfectly into it.

Uff – Bang Bang Music Review

Uff‘ is a complicated number. The song has too many variations that do not seem to fit in properly. Even though the lyrics are good, the musical variations are distraction in this number. The song certainly has a low recall value and is one of those numbers that will pass you by. While vocalist Harshdeep Kaur steps aside from her usual Sufi singing with this number, the song does not quite come together as a solid piece.

Bang Bang – Bang Bang Music Review

The song starts with a 80s disco feel to it. Listen to it further and you’ll realize that you are listening to a Hindi version of the ultimate disco classic ‘Staying Alive’ by Bee Gees. This song didn’t quite work for me considering that the lyrics seem forced into a musical arrangement that has been heard often and as they say ‘never mess with the past’. A composition inspired from something so epic is definitely a crime. If the video is extremely top notch, only then this song has a chance of becoming the audience’s favorite.

Meherbaan (Reprise) – Bang Bang Music Review

The reprise version of ‘Meherbaan‘ is a delight. Acoustics by Sanjoy Das (Bapi) and Keba Jeremiah are unmissable. Reprise version remains simpler and has more feel to it. Vocals may not be the highlight in this version but the musical arrangements most definitely are. Its languid nature is what works best for it.

The Last Word – Bang Bang Music Review

The ‘Bang Bang‘ soundtrack is not exactly a work of brilliance, as it’s a tried and tested formula of Bollywood music. Vishal-Shekhar give us a signature ‘Vishal-Shekhar’ album. They do what they are best at and thus the album lacks on the surprise element. I am going with a 2.5/5 for this album.
