Dipika Chikhlia aka Sita from Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan is making headlines ever since Prasar Bharti decided to rerun it on television again. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the shooting of daily soaps, series and films has been halted and hence, the TV authorities decided to rerun the old iconic shows like Ramayan, Mahabharat and Hum Paanch, to keep people hooked.

In a conversation with NavBharat Times, Dipika expressed her wish to play Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi’s role in a film based on her life. For the unversed, the Nirbhaya incident took place in December 2012 and left the country shattered. Nirbhaya’s condition was very critical and she lost her life after fighting with injuries for two weeks.

“I still get shivers down my spine when I think of the Nirbhaya incident. It took her seven years to get the justice she deserved, and in these seven years, her mother Asha Devi stood like a rock for her daughter. Being a woman and a mother myself, I can understand what she went through in these last seven years,” Dipika said.

She further added, “If ever a film is made on the Nirbhaya case, then I would love to play the role of Asha Devi in the film. A film based on the Nirbhaya case will enlighten the people of this country and especially, the women. Today women in the villages hesitate to lodge a complaint in the police station, but with Nirbhaya and her mother’s story these women will get a strength to stand for themselves and against injustice.”

Meanwhile, Nirbhaya’s mother got justice recently. The culprits were hanged to death last month.
