The Lust Stories franchise on Netflix has given us some really interesting takes on love, desire, relationships, and everything that comes with them. Across three seasons, the anthology has brought together some of the biggest names in Bollywood, with each director bringing their own perspective to the complicated and chaotic world of intimacy and relationships. Some stories have been shocking, some emotional, some funny, and some have stayed with us simply because of how unexpected they were. In 8 years and 3 seasons, we have had 12 very distinct stories on love and lust.
As Lust Stories 3 continues to make noise, here’s looking back at what makes the top 5 segments from the franchise so far for me!
Vishal Bhardwaj – Lust Stories 3
If you have already watched Lust Stories 3 or even watched the trailer, the song Aaye miyan Khat-pat is definitely running in your mind. It is definitely the song of the season. But even more interesting is the story this song is attached to.

The director, known for adapting stories across different eras, takes us back in time to present a story about lust from a female gaze. Aditi Rao Hydari plays Saira, a literature professor who takes a deep interest in erotic novels. So much so that she begins writing them and gets quite good at it. However, hell breaks loose when she writes an intimate book, and it gets lost, only to be found by a publisher couple who lure her into writing more!
What saves this from becoming a tragic and emotional turn is that our Chulbuli Begum has a supportive shauhar, Badru. When he learns about his wife’s erotica, he proudly flaunts it and encourages all husbands to read and learn, just as he did. It’s a happy ending for all, especially for Saira, who manages to communicate her needs indirectly through her literary skills. And well, the message gets delivered.
Karan Johar – Lust Stories 1 – Self-Satisfaction
Who would have ever expected such a shocking film from Karan Johar? The man who taught us Pyaar Dosti Hai and that family comes first! Karan Johar’s segment in Lust Stories was the most talked-about, as it sent shockwaves through a society that treats sex as a taboo and female pleasure as something almost non-existent.
So, when we see a leading actress like Kiara Advani act out a scene of self-pleasure in front of her husband and in-laws to the background music of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, it has to send shockwaves. But after the initial shock, you cannot help but applaud the sheer idea behind Johar’s segment. And this has also got to be the most memorable segment of the franchise.
Lust Stories 2 – The Mirror
Before Konkona Sen Sharma played a fun character in Lust Stories 3, she directed a segment in the second season. Starring Tillotama Shome and Amruta Subhash, both absolute powerhouses, the short explores class, desire, and gender.
The story is something you might not have even imagined, and that is also the beauty of Lust Stories. It centers on two women and their desires and what they would do to feel complete.
In this segment, Tillotama plays an upper-middle-class woman who sees her maid having sex with her own husband. But instead of confronting them, she watches them closely and takes pleasure in it. However, when the maid realizes what is happening, she does not confront her employer and continues.
It is interesting to dissect what goes on in the minds of these two women and how it affects their working relationship.
Shakun Batra – Lust Stories 3
Ali Fazal and Radhika Madan’s characters, Varun and Sainee, are a couple heading for divorce. We get glimpses of their happy wedding, but what follows is not so happy, and eventually, after five years, they decide to hit the brakes on their marriage.
However, their divorce takes a very emotional yet funny turn. The two cannot spend more than five minutes without being at each other’s throats, and their fights always end up with them in bed. Even as their hearts are wounded and they decide to break up, they still want each other, and it is something they give in to.
They are emotionally no longer willing to be with each other, but their physical connection continues. This, coupled with their problems in the marriage, including a nagging mother and growing differences, leads to its end. Ali and Radhika seem like a real-life couple on screen and share an easy chemistry, especially in their argument scenes.
Amit R Sharma – Lust Stories 2 – Tilchatta
Kajol in Lust Stories? I was already sold to this idea! The actress, in her career’s 2.0 phase, has been all about experimenting and owning new roles.
She plays Chanda, a former prostitute who marries a powerful, wealthy man named Suraj (Kumud Mishra). He only views women as objects of desire and feels entitled to treat women the way he wants. Chanda is tired of being abused every night in the marriage. However, she stays back because of her son, Yuvraj, wanting a good life for himself.
She draws up a revenge plan, taking advantage of her husband’s lust-filled attitude. However, the climax has immense shock value, with a tragic blow to Chanda and her world. What was it that completely foils her plan? And why did I gasp along with Chanda? Well, you still haven’t watched it tune into Netflix to know more.
