Scene North America Box Office: Scores Suriya’s 2nd Biggest Opening, Recovers 32% Of Its Breakeven Target

Suriya is on a roll at the North American box office (USA and Canada), delivering two back-to-back winners. His Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons delivered strong returns, and now it seems that his latest release, Scene, will maintain the momentum. Records Suriya’s 2nd biggest opening in North America!

The Tamil dark crime comedy had good pre-sales and also enjoyed traction through walk-ins. Through premieres, it amassed $236K and maintained that pace on actual day 1, grossing $310K. Overall, the film grossed a solid $546K at the North American box office on its opening day. In Indian rupees, it equals 5.13 crore.

With $546K, Scene has registered Suriya’s second-biggest opening in North America, surpassing Kanguva ($445K). Vishwanath & Sons ($676K) tops the list.

It needs $1.154 million more to become a success in the territory, a target that will be achieved comfortably given favorable reviews and audience reactions.

Suriya is coming off two big hits in the territory with Karuppu and Vishwanath & Sons, and is likely to score a hat-trick of winners. His previous film, Vishwanath & Sons, did a business of $2.95 million, so scoring $1.7 million isn’t much of a task.
