The Malayalam film Disco also hit theaters this Diwali weekend. The film almost got lost in the crowded release weekend. With movies like Ramayana: Part 1, Scene and Mookuthi Amman 2 arriving in theaters, Disco naturally took a backseat at the box office. The film had an underwhelming box-office performance on its opening day.

The new Malayalam film, starring Antony Varghese, Arjun Ashokan and Sreenath Bhasi, had a lackluster start at the box office. The film also received mixed-to-negative reviews from the limited audience it managed to attract.

How Much Did Disco Earn At The Box Office On Opening Day?

Directed by Ullas Chemban, the film is an action crime thriller. It had limited pre-release buzz. Moreover, the film was deeply impacted by the release of Suriya’s Scene, which also saw a great run at the Kerala box office, Disco’s home state. On its opening day, the film earned 60 lakh net in India. This brings its gross total to 70.8 lakh.

Despite the clash, the film opened in over 1,000 screens, with shows primarily scheduled in Kerala. Disco ranked third at the Kerala box office, behind Scene and Ramayana, which earned 6 crore and 2.15 crore, respectively, in the state.

Scores 84% Less Than Kattalan

Antony Varghese’s last full-fledged film was the Malayalam release Kattalan. He was also seen in Dulquer Salmaan’s I’m Game, but his role was credited as an extended cameo. Antony’s latest film had a much lower opening than Kattalan. The movie had a strong opening of 3.8 crore. Disco’s opening is 84% lower than Kattalan’s.

This is also the lowest opening of the year for Arjun Ashokan. He started the year with the film Chatha Pacha: The Ring Of Rowdies. He later appeared in the film Varavu alongside Joju George. While Chatha Pacha earned 3.4 crore net on its opening day, the latter grossed 1.55 crore.
