It’s going to be a starry August 20. Why? Well, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Morgan Freeman and Matthew McConaughey are few of the all-star cast set to stage a benefit table read of the 1982 classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This one-night-only virtual event will take place on August 20.
The fundraiser, Feelin’ Alive, has been put together by Dane Cook. It will also feature introductions from the film’s screenwriter, Cameron Crowe, and director, Amy Heckerling. The table read will also feature Shia LaBeouf, Sean Penn and Henry Golding, who will play unspecified parts in it. Surprise cameos too have been planned for the live stream.
This event will benefit Penn’s nonprofit ‘CORE,’ as well as ‘REFORM Alliance.’ REFORM Alliance was launched last year by a group including Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Robert Kraft and Michael Rubin.
Penn hinted at the all-star table read during his recent interview with Howard Stern and Jimmy Kimmel. He even revealed he wouldn’t portray his iconic stoner surfer Spicoli for the event. The 59-year-old hinted saying, “I’m very confident in the new guy.”
Crowe, who also recently took part in an ‘Almost Famous’ reunion said, “We are so excited to be a part of this 2020 take on Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Thank you to this cast, and to Sean, for always honouring the best things in life, love, and creativity. It is, as a great man once said, totally awesome.”
Penn earlier said: “I’m always game for a giggle. So, to gather remotely for a night of laughs with so many talented folks while providing CORE with much-needed resources to continue our vital work, then consider us fully on board to play!”
The Fast Times at Ridgemont High table read will live stream on August 20th at 9 p.m. EDT on the CORE Response Facebook and TikTok accounts.
