Shang-Chi has appeared in only one solo Marvel Cinematic Universe film so far, but a mystery introduced in its post-credits scene could make him important to Avengers: Doomsday. In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Shang-Chi takes possession of the Ten Rings after defeating his father, Xu Wenwu. Wenwu had used the powerful artifacts for centuries, but their origins remained unexplained.
The 2021 film ended with Shang-Chi and Katy meeting Wong, Bruce Banner, and Carol Danvers after Shang-Chi used his father’s Ten Rings to defeat him. During their discussion, the group discovered that the rings were far older than expected and were sending out a mysterious signal.
They discuss how his father had been using the rings for several centuries. And how they are much older than they look. This is also when Wong zooms in and notices a beacon sending a signal out somewhere. With what Bruce says, they are certainly not vibranium, the rarest metal in the fictional MCU. And by what Carol, aka Captain Marvel, says, she has certainly not seen any such metal in space as well. This clarifies that the rings are not from this world.

That unanswered mystery has fuelled theories about the rings’ connection to the MCU’s multiverse. One possibility is that they originated outside Earth-616 and could eventually lead the Avengers to another universe.
Could Shang-Chi’s Ten Rings Be Connected To Doctor Doom?
Shang-Chi’s father, Xu Wenwu, was fascinated by powerful and mysterious objects. He somehow got hold of the rings, but they belong to another universe. This may be the universe of Dr. Victor von Doom (Earth 828).
Since the metal is not from this Earth or even space, it might come from a totally new universe altogether. Now remember Dr. Doom’s collection was displayed at the New York Comic Con. The set at the comic convention took visitors through several artifacts he had collected over the years.
These artifacts consisted of Uru metal, the mystical, nearly indestructible metal native to Asgard. In case one does not know, it is the same metal that was used to forge Thor’s hammer as well as the Stormbreaker.
The other artifacts that were in Dr. Doom’s collection were Ultron’s head, Thanos’ damaged helmet, Cyclops’ visor, a broken piece of the Silver Surfer’s board, and more. This means either he likes collecting artifacts or his whole family has been collecting them for centuries.
The rings may have been a powerful weapon tied to Doom’s universe, which is why it is sending a signal to Universe 828. Remember Doom’s mother was a witch, meaning she might have tied the rings to their universe. Or they might first have been given to Victor, and his mother set up the beacon to locate him in any universe.
This makes more sense, as when Wong zooms in on the rings, before the shot reaches the beacon, we come across several galaxy-like scenes. Meaning the rings are not sending a signal just around this Earth but across space and time. Now, the scary part is that the signal will bring Doom to Earth-616, making Shang-Chi the first character to encounter him.
Avengers: Doomsday—What We Know So Far
Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth entry that brings several superheroes together. The most fun part is that the film will feature not only Earth-616 heroes but also mutants from an Earth not yet revealed and the Earth-828 Fantastic Four.
The film is bringing back two major names from behind the camera as well. They are Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors of Infinity War and Endgame, who will direct Doomsday.
Robert Downey Jr. is also back but playing the antagonist character, Dr. Victor von Doom. For those who do not know, even Famke Janssen is reportedly back as Jean Grey, alongside Wolverine and Deadpool, as well as Agent or Captain Carter.
