The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding and so are many new characters being introduced. Sony Pictures is not only focused on increasing the reach, but also introduce new female characters in this powerful universe. The latest gossip that the grapevine has to offer is that actor-director Olivia Wilde has been roped in to direct a female superhero flick, and if things fall in place, it could be Spider-Woman.
Yes, you read that right, the character that has inspired and impressed us in the comic books might just get its big-screen debut. And who better than a female filmmaker to represent this movement. Olivia Wilde has confirmed her entry as the director, but on what project is yet unknown.
Produced by Amy Pascal and executive produced by Rachel O’Connor, the film will be penned by Katie Silberman, as reported in the Deadline.
Meanwhile, Olivia did react to the news. Retweeting the story, she captioned it with a spider emoticon. Isn’t that a hint enough?
While, Spider-Woman has seen her journey in the comic books, Olivia Wilde is said to be revamping the complete character. In this case, we are up for a surprise. Over the years actors like Gwen Stacy, Mary Jane Watson and Jessica Drew, have embodied the character in the popular comics.
However, Olivia Wilde’s Spider-Woman is not the only female representation that Sony is planning in the Marvel universe, but there is Madame Webb, Black Cat, and Silver Sable projects too. As for Marvel, it was recently announced, Nia DaCosta will helm Captain Marvel 2, and seems like the MCU is up for some amazing diversity.
