Rustom has emerged a successful film on its Day One itself. The signs were all there for quite some time actually and with the kind of positive energy that it was coming with, it was always on the cards that the Tinu Suresh Desai film would enjoy a good opening.
However, the numbers have actually bordered to being very good as Friday stands at 14.11 crore. These are quite impressive, considering the release size of the film (2317 screens) as well as the fact that there was a much bigger and major competition in the form of Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro.
Leaving the comparisons aside and considering the fact that the film could have comfortably crossed 17-18 crore if it would have arrived solo, the fact remains that Rustom has put every foot correct in its endeavor for an impressive Box Office opening. The buzz was there, hype pretty high and craze amongst audiences unparalleled when it comes to an Akshay Kumar starrer. This reflected in the footfalls that were quite high in the evening and night shows when houseful signs were back all over again.
It was predicted in this column that the opening day of Rustom would be between Airlift [12.35 crore] and Housefull 3 [15.2 crore] and this is what happened. The game is now on for the Akshay Kumar starrer as the film is seeing good word of mouth from audiences as well as thumbs up from the critics as well. All that it needs to do is consolidate further till the big holiday of Independence Day (on Monday). With further growth expected now and plethora of holidays by the time the second weekend arrives, the journey towards the 100 crore mark would be quite swift for Rustom.
For its makers too, it is now time to breathe much easier. Zee Studios have managed a major successful film to its name now while KriArj Entertainment has found a solid footing for it as well. Considering the fact that both companies are set to make more films together, Rustom has proved to be a major step in the right direction.
