Box Office: The winner of ‘Best Picture’ category of Oscars 2020, Parasite is witnessing a huge turnaround in its box office numbers post the prestigious win. Apart from it, the film also emerged victorious in ‘Best Foreign Language Film Category’.
As per Variety’s report, Parasite saw a rise of over 230% in ticket sales after winning the trophy. The ‘Oscar’ effect is clearly seen in the numbers with more people getting aware of this Korean film. The film has made $ 8.8 million which is 20% of its domestic collection, after bagging the win in Oscars. The thriller also jumped during the weekend in the overseas market, thus helping it in crossing a $ 200 million mark globally.
Meanwhile, South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, who made history by winning Best Picture Oscar for his film “Parasite”, became the most-tweeted-about celebrity from the guest list at 92nd Academy Awards ceremony.
“Parasite” created history at the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony by winning four out of the six categories it was nominated in. These are Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Film. Joon-ho has become the second director of a non-English film to win the Oscar for best director. Alfonso Cuaron had won for “Roma” in 2018.
