Madaari hasn’t really seen the kind of push over the weekend that would have helped it sail smoothly into the weekdays. After a low opening of just around 2 crore, the film did see some sort of a push over the weekend.

As a result, the collections currently stand around the 9 crore* mark. Considering the fact that the film has seen a relatively wide release (~1000 screens), one expected better footfalls to be registered.

The film’s weekend collections are on the same lines as Irrfan’s Talvar [9.25 crore] and that film – powered by good word of mouth – had hung on quite well to eventually go past the 30 crore mark. In case of Madaari, Nishikant Kamat would have to hope that the film stays ultra-stable during the weekdays with collections staying at least above the 1.5 crore mark on a daily basis. That is the bare minimum need for the film to at least make a dash towards the 20 crore mark.

There was nothing wrong with the promo, marketing, acting or the story. It is just that the narrative wasn’t as watertight as Talvar or even A Wednesday, a film belonging to same genre. That is now reflecting in the footfalls too which are restricted to selected multiplexes across the country, and hence the film is not penetrating as deep as what the makers would have expected.

*Estimates. Final numbers awaited
