Ek Villain had an excellent first day. The film opened to good responses and in fact competed stiffly with Jai Ho‘s opening which has been so far the highest opening collections at the domestic box office this year with a magnanimous 17.50 crores. According to early estimates, the film collected 16.72 crores at the domestic box office which is humongous number for a film of this scale.
With a screen count of 2500 as opposed to Jai Ho‘s 4500, Ek Villain still managed to compete with Jai Ho‘s opening day collections. Starring Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles, the film received massive responses in Mumbai as the afternoon and evening shows were housefull. In other circuits too, the film made a stable headway with good income especially in a circuit like West Bengal which is a tough market for most except Shah Rukh Khan who entertains massive fan following in the region. In circuits like C.I and Rajasthan, the film remained firm.
The thriller drama with its excellent music had already created much buzz and after receiving smashing critical response, the Mohit Suri film is all set to rattle the box office with some good numbers. Already after challenging Jai Ho as the Highest opener, Ek Villain is expected to pick up even more over the weekend emerging as a record smasher of sorts.
