Box Office Prediction: Biggest Competition For Fugly Would Be Holiday

For some strange reasons, on 13th June other than Fugly as many as four others films are looking at battling it out between Holiday [6th June release] and Humshakals [20th June release]. Knowing pretty well that they would hardly find a screen to their name due to an overflow of Holiday in its second week, and then would end up losing almost all of it in the second week once Humshakals arrives, still number of producers have gone adventurous in their release strategy.

As a result of this, quite a few films like 18.11 (A code of Secrecy…!), Chal Bhaag, Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai and Unforgettable are vying for screen space this weekend. A recipe for disaster, one can well expect yet another weekend at the Bollywood box office when there won’t be much to cheer about for most films.

Amidst these films, the only notable film of the week is Fugly which is the biggest in terms of production, set-up, promotion, marketing and release. Announced quite some time back, this Akshay Kumar and Ashwini Yardi production would be seeing a good theater, screen and show count for itself. Of course in terms of opening, a lot would depend on word of mouth which means the true picture would be known only Friday evening and then rest of the weekend. However, with youth as the target audience, select screens – especially at urban centers – can well expect good occupancy in the morning shows as well.

Meanwhile, and ironically, the biggest competition for Fugly would be Holiday which is expected to stay strong, hence making it an out and out Akshay Kumar fortnight at the box office.
