Zohra Sehgal, is a name that has been famed in the showbiz thanks to the seven decades of unfathomable contribution that she made to the industry. The veteran actress passed away on Thursday night due to cardiac arrest in Max hospital. She was 102.
Known for her character driven roles, young Zohra had started off as a dancer and then joined the theater in 1946. She was a member of the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) and in 1946 debuted in its first film production Dharti Ke Lal, which dealt with the Bengal famine. She also acted in another IPTA film – Chetan Anand’s Neecha Nagar.
The Padma Vibhushan awardee has starred in many Bollywood films and was last seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s debut film Saawariya in 2007. She made a mark in many other films such as Dil Se, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Cheeni Kum. Known for her full of life nature, the actress was often lauded as the favorite co-star by actors who have worked with her.
The industry mourned the death of this veteran star and a lot of celebrities took to Twitter to express their grief.
