Vidya Balan is stepping into a new Tamil project, and this one brings her back together with a filmmaker she has worked with before. The actor has reunited with R. Bali for an upcoming Tamil film, with the shoot underway.
Vidya Balan shared the update on Instagram stories, posting a picture of herself with the script in hand. She was seen wearing spectacles and sporting a long braid in the photo, giving fans a first glimpse of her new project. She captioned the post, “New Beginnings #NewTamilFilm with #RBalki.”
Vidya Balan & R. Balki Reunite After Paa
The new film marks Vidya and R. Balki’s first collaboration in 17 years. The two previously worked together on Paa, which was released in 2009 and also starred Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.

Vidya has not shared details about the new film yet, including its title, storyline, or her character. Her latest post, however, confirms that she has started work on the project. The upcoming film also marks another Tamil-language project for Vidya, who has been adding films across different languages and genres to her upcoming slate.
Vidya Balan’s Upcoming Projects
Apart from the new Tamil film, Vidya Balan will next be seen as Kantha in Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 15, 2026, with Sun Pictures listing Vidya among the cast.
She will also reunite with Akshay Kumar in an upcoming untitled comedy directed by Anees Bazmee. The film also stars Raashii Khanna and is slated to release in cinemas on December 4, 2026. The makers have already wrapped a Kerala schedule of the film.
With Jailer 2, the Akshay Kumar-Anees Bazmee comedy, and now a new Tamil film with R. Balki, Vidya Balan has a diverse slate of projects lined up across languages and genres.
