Bollywood’s heartthrob Vivek Oberoi couldn’t be any happier to finally relinquish his single status. The actor is tying the knot to Priyanka Alva, a 28-year-old Business Management graduate from London. The star-studded wedding is slated for October 29th in Bangalore with a grand reception in Mumbai on the 31st.
Guest List
Vivek and Priyanka’s wedding boasts of an impressive guest list with Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa and actor Sanjay Dutt already having confirmed his presence. No surprises there: Priyanka’s father, late Dr Jeevaraj Alva, was the Information Minister in the mid 80’s. And unlike other superstars or first families of Bollywood, Vivek isn’t having a super-secret wedding with ‘exclusive’ guests.
Where’s The Honeymoon?
For those wondering about the whereabouts of their honeymoon, there’s a bit of a downer. The 34-year-old actor has kept his honeymoon on hold for the time being as he will be busy promoting his films Rakht Charitra and Rakht Charitra 2. “No honeymoon for us right away as I am busy with the promotions of ‘Rakht Charitra’. But we’re planning something sometime in November. Priyanka likes deep-sea diving and I like flying planes, so maybe we could do a bit of both,” Vivek said.
But the Prince star made sure had some fun with his fiancée Priyanka Alva. The couple was spotted in London with some of Priyanka’s friends finishing some last minute pre-wedding shopping.
How Did They Meet?
So how did Vivek and Priyanka meet? Well, the actor has never been secretive about his romantic liaisons, be it Aishwarya Rai (now Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) or Gurpreet Gill. Finally the actor told his parents to find a suitable match for him. Now Vivek’s mother Yashodhara is a noted social activist and is friends with Nandini Alva, who is also a social worker and Priyanka’s mother. It’s as simple as that. For an actor mired in controversy for a large part of his career (remember the press conference on Salman Khan?), it’s ironic to find his match so quietly!
The Grand Wedding Card!
What we found most interesting (yes, yes we’re being materialistic) is Vivek and Priyanka’s wedding card.
Okay, so it’s more of a wedding box than a card. It came in a huge and luxurious box which opened to reveal that it had two levels.
On the top level, inside a red satin-covered enclosure was a Ganjifa painting with an explanatory red card (with golden letters) about the painting.
Ganjifa paintings are miniature paintings and a note in the card explained that it had been their endevour to contribute to the revival of the art form.
Priyanka and Vivek’s wedding card is made from eco-friendly, handmade herbs. Even the scroll is made from 100 per cent recycled material. As the groom-to-be said in a lighter vein, “Everything, except the chocolates, is recycled!”
Apparently, it was Priyanka’s brother Aditya who suggested adding the Ganjifa craft each invite.
On the bottom level were two neatly-packed red and golden boxes of delicious chocolate packed in golden paper.
May the wedding and the years after that be just as sweet!
