Recently, pictures of Deepika Padukone & Ranbir Kapoor outside #MeToo accused filmmaker Luv Ranjan went viral, leading to rumours of a collaboration happening soon. Soon, #NotMyDeepika started trending on Twitter with fans not being happy with DP working with someone with those sorts of allegations. Now, Richa Chadha is opening up about whether she would work with a person like that, and here’s what she feels.
Richa along with Akshaye Khanna, director Ajay Bahl & rest of the cast were present at the trailer launch of their upcoming movie, Section 375, which revolves around rape, consent and issues peripheral to it. When the team was asked about their take on Industry members working with #MeToo accused individuals like Deepika recently refused to work with Luv Ranjan, Ajay said, “The organisation you work for, one of the senior guy is accused of a MeToo, would you stop working for an organisation? It’s your job, right?”
Upon further being suggested how the person would generally be terminated from the organisation in the case but same isn’t the case with B’Town, Richa answered, “Media bhi jaati hai na #MeToo accused ke press conferences me? Mai mic us taraf turn karu toh aapko apne girebaan me jhakna padega. Baat ye hai ki Jab tak legally, guilty ya innocent prove nahi hota.. media me trial chala, Twitter pe trial chalana alag baat hai. Mai un cases ki baat kar rahi hu jaha ek ya do allegations ho, unki nahi jo 19-20 log samne aaye hai. There’s a volume of people who are the survivors and it speaks for itself. Par ye ek social problem hai and hum sabko isse address karna hoga.
(Media also attends Press confrences of individuals accused of #MeToo, right? I can point the fingers at you too. The thing is, until and unless a person is proven innocent or guilty by the law, running trials or media or Twitter may be a different thing. I’m talking about the cases where only a person or 2 have accused a man, not in the cases where 19-20 victims have come forward. This is a social problem and we all have to address it)
She further on added, “Dusri baat ye hai ki online lynch mob banake kisika career thap karana, agar kisipe pe allegation lagi hai.. aap jitna bhi chaho wo murjhaake mar toh nahi jayega na, jinda rahega. Us chiz ko kaise address kare.. it’s very complicated. General rule nahi ho sakta.”
Trending
(Second thing is lynching somebody’s career online just because there’s an allegation of him will not kill them, that person will still be alive. There’s a way to address it and it’s very complicated. A general rule cannot be applied)
Meanwhile. Section 375 is set for a 13th September release.
