The on-screen bromance between Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh was certainly unmissable in Gunday. And now, Arjun Kapoor gears up for the release of his first period drama, Panipat directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar. But ever since the film’s trailer is out, there have been constant comparisons between Arjun’s look and way of acting to that of Ranveer Singh from Bajirao Mastani as both films are based on Maratha warriors.
When quizzed if Arjun’s friendship with Ranveer has changed dynamics after these speculations, the India’s Most Wanted actor was quick to shun any such possibility. Speaking to Mid-Day, Arjun has been quoted saying, “He still gatecrashes my dubbing, sends long voice messages after watching my songs and kisses me on the cheeks. Our connection remains unaffected. I tell Deepika [Padukone, Singh’s wife] that I am her souten. We have been consistently warm.”
Furthermore, Arjun revealed that he has not taken any kind of advice from Ranveer for playing Sadashiv in Panipat because he wanted to give his own take on the character. Also citing at the difference in the visions of the directors of Bajirao Mastani and Panipat, Arjun said, “Ashu sir and Sanjay sir [Leela Bhansali] make magnum opuses, but they have different temperaments. Here, I respected my director’s temperament. I wanted to remain loyal to my story. Ranveer would have given me his point of view [that would be derived from] Sanjay sir’s understanding. I have tremendous respect for Ranveer’s work. But this film didn’t require me [to seek his advice] because Bajirao and Sadashiv are from different eras.”
Boasting of an impressive cast of Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Monish Bahl, Zeenat Aman, Sanjay Dutt and Padmini Kolhapuri in pivotal roles, Panipat is directed by the celebrated Ashutosh Gowarikar. The film is slated to release on the 6th of December 2019.
