Anil Kapoor has revealed that he used to fondly call the late Rishi Kapoor as James. Anil shared the information on social media while reminiscing about their bond, sharing a throwback picture that features him with Rishi.
The snapshot Anil Kapoor shared was from their first photoshoot together, ahead of the release of Yash Chopra’s 1988 release “Vijay“. “First Photoshoot with James for Vijay… it’s been 32 years… #32yearsofVijay,” he tweeted. In the image, the actors can be seen twinning in white.

Anil Kapoor has revealed in the past that he called Rishi Kapoor “James” because the latter looked as dashing as Hollywood actor James Dean.
The multistarrer “Vijay” also starred Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Meenakshi Sheshadri and Sonam apart of Anil Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. The story of the film is loosely based on the Amitabh Bachchan-Shashi Kapoor-Sanjeev Kumar superhit “Trishul”, which Yash Chopra made in 1978. Rishi Kapoor breathed his last on the 30th of April 2020 at the age of 67. The Bobby actor fought a long battle with cancer since 2018.
Opening up about why he called Rishi Kapoor James, Anil Kapoor had shared a post on his social media a while back. “My dear James, I don’t know where to begin. From growing up to living our dreams on screen, we were together through it all. You were like an elder brother to me, a shoulder when I needed the support, a mentor when I needed that push and a friend always. Thank you for the endless love you gave my family and me. You were like a son to my mother and you knew that Krishna aunty was always like a mother to me. Your Patton forever.”
While several fans wondered what the connection was, Anil Kapoor has yet again to his Instagram handle to open up about the reason behind calling Rishi Kapoor James.
Anil Kapoor’s post read, “The reason I called Rishi Kapoor James was because according to me if there was anyone who looked as good as James Dean it was him…and he loved hearing that from me…he will always be James for me…”
