Hawaaizada is the upcoming biopic starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Pallavi Sharda in lead roles. Composers Rochak Kohli, Mangesh Dhakde, Ayushmann Khurrana and Vishal Bhardwaj come together for this ten track album. Unfortunately, its like too many cooks spoil the broth and so only a few tracks from the film outshine while the others are average.
Hawaizaada Dil – Hawaizaada Music Review
The song Hawaaizada Dil is sung and composed by Rochak Kohli. It is a fresh song with quirky beats and is quite a likable number. The only problem with this song is its lyrics which are not only a little unclear but also they have a low recall value. The song may fit into your head thanks to its peppy music but otherwise it is not really an outstanding number. What I specifically like in the song is the guitar portions which make this song an average, hummable number.
Daak Ticket – Hawaizaada Music Review
The song Daak Ticket sung by Mohit Chauhan comes as a huge disappointment. Mohit Chauhan is a singer I truly love and his quality to croon any number to perfection is commendable, but with a composition as weak as this, he falters here. Rochak Kohli clearly seems to be finding inspiration from other Bollywood songs and thus in this song he gives us a blend of the famous Kal Ho Na Ho song ‘Kuch Toh Hua Hai‘. The tune is lifted just the same and it is quite evident in the first hearing itself. Daak Ticket is quite a boring number and sadly once you know its music is a mishmash, you lose the eagerness to hear it.
Maazaa My Lord – Hawaizaada Music Review
Mazaa My Lord is a very English style composed number. Since the film is based in a setting from the pre-independence era, the composer tries to give a opera feel to the music. Sung by Mohit Chauhan and Neeti Mohan, the song starts off on a good note with its lively music but eventually drops. This five minute song gets dull by the middle portions. In spite of the lyrics being good, Mazaa My Lord is not as much fun and does not entertain for long.
Dil-E-Nadaan – Hawaizaada Music Review
This is one of the best songs from the album. Sung by Ayushmann Khurrana himself, the song has beautiful lyrics. The musical arrangements are fusion with guitar, Tabla and Sitar pieces blended together. It is a slow track that really swoons you. For a change Aysuhmann sounds quite different than the rest of his songs in this one.
There is also a reprise version of this song, sung by Shweta Subram and Ayushmann Khurrana. I loved the original song and the reprise too is equally good. The addition of Shweta’s vocals makes this song even more soulful.
Udd Jayega – Hawaizaada Music Review
Udd Jayega is a lyrically rich song but it does not manage to capture the same essence with its music. Sukhwinder Singh has sung this song but sadly according to me his vocals seem misfit for this composition. Hopefully, the song will have a more enhanced meaning in the film.
Dil Todne Ki Masheen – Hawaizaada Music Review
I was really looking forward to the Marathi item song that Pallavi Sharda will be performing on and that is ‘Dil Todne Ki Masheen‘. I have no clue why but when it comes to the portrayal of Marathi culture, the composers limit themselves to Lavanis. This song too lyrically makes little sense and the entire musical arrangement is faulty. It is sad that inspite of having a singer like Rekha Bhardwaj on board, the song is such a huge disappointment. This is by far Vishal Bhardwaj’s weakest composition.
Yaadien Gatthri Mein – Hawaizaada Music Review
This one minute song by Harshdeep Kaur is extremely soulful. It is more like an unplugged version of Udd Jayega. Her soothing vocals make this track difficult to miss.
Turram Khan – Hawaizaada Music Review
Turram Khan is a peppy song that bears quite similarity to ‘Hawaa Hawaa‘ from Rockstar. The song has been sung by Papon, Ayushmann and Monali Thakur. Lyrically, the song is more like a story but does not turn out as an impressive tale. There is an unusual transition in this song which breaks the link. Turram Khan did not work for me at all, I would not recommend this track from the album.
Teri Dua – Hawaizaada Music Review
Wadali brothers are famous for their Sufi songs and Teri Dua is their signature style of singing. Also Harshdeep Kaur joins them in this song. This song would find instant likability for anyone who loves Sufi music. I found Teri Dua quite an average work for Wadali brothers are stalwarts in this style of music but this one does not match up to their standards.
The Last Word – Hawaizaada Music Review
The Hawaaizada album is not extraordinary minus a few tracks. With ten songs in the album and only a few working out for it, it is a shame that multiple composers cannot deliver a soulful album. My picks from the album are Dil-E-Nadaan and Yaadein Gatthri Mein. I am going with a 2/5 for this album.
