#FlashbackFriday: When Loki’s Offensive Dialogue To Black Widow In ‘The Avengers’ Landed Marvel In Trouble!

When the God of Mischief is captured and locked up by the Avengers and SHIELD, Scarlett’s character goes and talks to him to figure out what his intentions are. During their conversation, Loki calls Black Widow a ‘mewling qu*m’. However, if you Google this word, it has a very derogatory meaning and it’s used in an offensive way for women. It was quite a shock to see how director Joss Whedon had used the C-word in a Disney film by actually not saying it in its known form.

But usage of that word in the film didn’t go down well. People started using that scene and that particular word as memes on the internet. As reported by Digital Spy, to avoid the audience getting exposed to this offensive word, a lot of TV channels changed the word to ‘mewling child’ when the film was aired on TV.

Since then, there has always been debate on the internet about the usage of this world. At that time a Reddit user had shared how the dialogue was changed on TV and they were disappointed. But a certain section of people wasn’t happy with the inclusion of such words in a film that even kids watch.
