Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid adopted a cat from a Virginia animal shelter this week and do you know why is it making news? Well, it is because the names of the actor and cat are fur-milar.
Quaid said he couldn’t just miss the opportunity to adopt a feline friend who shares the same name as him. Quaid found out about his name-sharer through the ‘Clear the Shelters’ initiative of NBC and Telemundo-owned stations WSLS-TV.
The actor, who adopted Dennis Quaid (cat) from the Lynchburg Humane Society, said that he was “out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world.” He told local news station WSLS, “It was really off the wall, but I just couldn’t resist. I had to. I’m out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world.”

The said TV station introduced Dennis Quaid, a local cat, to their viewers only last week. The station didn’t explain how the cat got his Hollywood name.
Quaid (the human) also hosts a podcast with Jimmy Jellinek titled ‘The Pet Show.’ Here, the ‘Parent Trap’ actor and Jimmy talk about all things related to pet culture. Upon finding out about the famous cat, Dennis Quaid and Jellinek reached out to the Lynchburg Humane Society staff.
The centre initially thought they were internet trolls. Danielle Ulmer, manager Lynchburg Humane Society adoption centre, said, “I was like there is no way this is real, like, someone is pranking us.”
Under the ‘Clear the Shelters’ initiative, the said station has helped many dogs and cats get adopted by featuring them in stories and introducing them to animal lovers.
Isn’t this gesture by Dennis Quaid the sweetest thing on the internet?
