In Avengers: Endgame, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) killed Thanos (Josh Brolin) by snapping his fingers when he wielded the infinity gauntlet. But in Avengers: Infinity War, the Thanos who was on the hunt for infinity stones said that he respects Tony Stark. This scene in the film shocked everyone.
It happened during the fight in Titan when Iron Man attacks Thanos. The might villain tells Stark that he respects him. Confused Tony responds, “You know me?” To this Josh Brolin’s character responds, “You’re not the only one cursed with knowledge”. After Avengers: Infinity War, people want to know why the villain respects an Avenger whose intention is to stop him?
The same question was posed by a Quora user. The question reads, “Why does Thanos respect Tony Stark so much in comparison to all the other Avengers that fought against his movement in ‘Infinity War’?” To this, a user named Arihant Bharadwaj answered, “Thanos and stark are similar in many ways and Thanos knew that Tony was the best bet that Earth had against him. Thanos had been keeping tabs on the Avengers ever since they stopped Loki and the Chitauri in the battle of New York. Towards the end of the movie we see stark carrying the nuke into space and throwing it at the mothership and that marked the end of the battle.”
The theory further reads, “Ever since Tony took the nuke into space and realised that there were bigger threats in space and that Earth wasn’t ready to defend itself when those threats would come knocking on the door. He created Ultron as a precautionary measure to that. Even though Ultron did more harm than good, the motivation was to put an armor around the world. Everybody else disregarded this except him. That explains why Thanos says “You’re not the only one cursed with knowledge”. Thanos in many ways was similar to Stark. He saw a problem and wanted to fix it (in his own twisted ways).”
