This week’s only release Ek Thi Daayan, starring Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Konkona Sen Sharma and Huma Qureshi, in-keeping with the popular expectations opened with a decent start at the Domestic Box Office. Though producer Ekta Kapoor had strictly zeroed the film towards multiplex audiences, it did open well at the few single screens where the film was released. The film opened to an average 40-45% occupancy overall.
Given the interesting horror concept the film unravels, it is expected to pick up to greater heights in the week that will follow. However, the film will have to show elevated performance by the end of the weekend in order to sustain a high box office collection.
The initial revenue is important to collect the larger part of the film’s profit, post which the money inflow slows down in the consequent days. However, considering the budget of the film, which is considerably low, the film will easily recover the cost.
