So Rohit Shetty has done it again! Record-breaking collections are a thing of the past for him. In fact, he breaks his own records every time he comes up with a new film. His latest release, Bol Bachchan, is sure to surpass the box office collections of his last few films namely Singham, Golmaal 3 and Golmaal Returns.
Bol Bachchan, which released worldwide on 6th July, garnered a massive first-day net collection of Rs. 11.4 crores domestically. Weekend collections stood at an impressive Rs. 38.5 crores throughout India. Just a week into the theatres and the film, made on a budget of 70 crores, has already grossed more than 50 crores, earning itself a ‘hit’ status for the time being.
Rohit Shetty’s previous release, Singham, had earned a blockbuster status by entering the 100-crore collections league. The film had opened to a Rs. 9 crore earning on Day One of its release on 22nd July. Thereafter, it went on to gross Rs. 30.5 crores in the weekend and Rs. 50 crores in its first week at the box office.
Before Singham, Shetty’s 2010 Diwali release Golmaal 3 had collected Rs. 8.32 crores on the first day of its release. Weekend collections were Rs. 33.5 crores and the opening week gross figures read a massive Rs. 62.25 crores! Since the film was released in the Diwali weekend, it garnered huge collections and ultimately became a blockbuster.
Golmaal Returns had also enjoyed a similar fate at the time of its release. The film earned an impressive Rs. 12 crores in its first five days at the box office. Worldwide collections for the film in the first week itself were Rs. 72 crores, giving the film a hit status.
Though never critically appreciated, except Singham, Rohit Shetty films always click with the audiences for their over-the-top acting and action sequences. Given the past records of Shetty films, and the rave reviews that Bol Bachchan is receiving, the film is expected to step into the 100-crore bandwagon and enjoy the ‘blockbuster’ status. Let’s wait and watch!
