What a year 2018 is turning out to be. While there have been Blockbusters, superhits and Hits galore, what is all the more pleasing is to see some unexpected big successes that are making it a rich year. One such major success was just a few weeks back when Raid entered the 100 Crore Club. Now Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi has not just done the same, it has also gone past the lifetime numbers of the Ajay Devgn starrer to emerge an even big money spinner.

The common factor between both the films is that they are realistic dramas based on true events. Due to this, expectations were under check since you don’t really find universal audiences rooting for such affairs. Raid was based on a real life raid that had taken place back in the 80s. This is the reason why even though Ajay Devgn was leading the show, one expected a best case total of 80-90 crore for the film. Still, it went past the 100 crore mark to finally conclude its theatrical run around at 102 crore.

Alia Bhatt’s Raazi Goes Past Ajay Devgn’s Raid To Emerge As Biggest Realistic Drama In 100 Crore Club!

On the other hand Alia Bhatt’s Raazi has exceeded all expectations. Even after the release of the film one expected a 60-70 crore total at best. However, once the first week itself went on to gather 56.59 crore, sky was the limit for the film. So much so that now it has accumulated 104.32 crore already and in the process surpassed even Raid. For a film which was set in the 70s and was primarily a dramatic affair with a spy angle to add, it is remarkable to see it managing such a journey.

Both films are the best of the lot when it comes to scoring high in a genre and set up like this. Yes, Airlift had done quite well too with collections to the tune of 133 crore. However, even though it was realistic with drama at the core of it, at the end of the day it was a far more commercial film. Moreover, Akshay Kumar’s star presence had ensured that there were some very good footfalls registered, especially with the Republic Day holiday helping its case as well right in the middle of the week.

In case of Raazi as well as Raid, the taste of success is sweeter than many other films that enter the 100 Crore Club due to the odds involved. It also pretty much reflects that audiences have managed an evolved taste over a period of time and this is the reason why they are embracing such genre of films with open arms.

Here is to many more successes spanning across varied subjects in time to come!
