As Jiah Khan’s suicide shook the entire film industry today morning, there are innumerable people from Bollywood we have lost to untimely death, depression or personal issues.

Tragedies of young stars have always left the film fraternity perturbed at their sudden shocking deaths. Koimoi takes you through the Bollywood artists we have lost such.

Guru Dutt

Suffering from the hassles of the life of a star, Guru Dutt had a troubled married life. A rumored extra marital relationship with actress Waheeda Rehman and an estranged relationship with wife Geeta Dutt. Dying of an overdoze of sleeping pills, the actor was drunk the night of his death. It is a mystery if his death is an accident or suicide, but definitely a harsh loss for Bollywood.

Manmohan Desai

The film maker who is best known for films like Amar Akbar Anthony, Coolie, Mard, Parvarish and so on died a sudden death by falling off his balcony. Though suspected that he committed suicide, the news could never be confirmed due to lack of substantial evidence.

Parveen Babi

It took 72 hours to discover that once a reputed actress had been lying dead in her Mumbai home. Suffering from chronic schizophrenia, she lived the life of a loner. The actress had apparently starved herself to death in the last few days of her life. Known for many popular films of the 70s and 80s, her death was a jolting shock.

Divya Bharti

One night in 1993, the actress fell down from her apartment. With speculations of death centered around murder and suicide, all fingers were pointed at her husband Sajid Nadiadwala. Her death still remains one of the most mysterious ones in Bollywood.

Silk Smitha

Her story became popular when Balaji roped in Vidya Balan to play the role of Smitha in their 2011 film The Dirty Picture. Unsuccessful at love and professional life, she sought suicide as the easy solution out of it.

Kunal Singh

He became visible in Bollywood after Dil Hi Dil Mein with Sonali Bendre. Found dead in his apartment by friend Lavina Bhatia, the mystery of his death loomed large for a long time. Bhatia was framed on charges but was later acquitted due to the lack of clear motive.

Nafisa Joseph

Going to be married in three months, former Miss India Universe hanged herself to death. Distantly related to actor Sharmila Tagore, apparently she ended her life because her impending marriage was apparently called off. Fiance Gautam Khanduja who had lied about his marital status was tried on charges of abetment suicide.

Varsha Bhonsle

Depressed and lonely, she had apparently tried taking her lives many times before. In October 2012, she shot herself to death with a licensed weapon. Traumatizing her mother Asha Bhonsle and aunt Lata Mangeshkar, it was a moment of doom for her family.

Kuljeet Randhawa

A famous model, best known for her Television shows, C.A.T.S and Special Squad, also Kohinoor, the actress hanged herself to death in her Juhu Apartment. Claiming to find life’s challenges unbearable, she decided to end her life.

Viveka Babajee

A top model for all reputed fashion designers including Ritu Beri, Rohit Bal, Sandeep Khosla, Ritu Kumar and so on, she shot to fame with a commercial for Kamasutra condoms. Hanging herself from a ceiling fan, the actress blamed her former boyfriend Gautam Vohra for her death.
